Madex Stages Protest At Conference, Throws Tomato Soup On Artwork

Popular Bitcoin artist, Madex, made a surprise visit to the Bitcoin 2023 conference to throw tomato soup on the Ordinals exhibit. Madex had previously condemned the conference for supporting ordinals and had announced he was not going. As he threw the tomato soup on the collection, he glued his hand to the floor and was heard screaming, "Bitcoin is money! Bitcoin is money! Bitcoin is money"

The protest was the first of it's kind for the Bitcoin Conference which usually has a good reception. This year in particular though, the conference was brought into controversy. Many Bitcoin users blame the 2022 conference for starting the bear market, which appeared to be a part of Madex's manifesto he released online after his stunt.

Bitcoin Twitter had mixed reviews of the stunt which was likened to climate activists in France. Some supported Madex, agreeing with the spirit of the protest. Others condemned the action as disruptive and silly. Charlie Spears commented on the protest saying, "It's a shame Madex is now emulating climate hysterics and pulling stunts like this. I really like his art and wish he would have displayed it at the conference, instead of throwing soup on printed pictures of other people's art. The art lives on the blockchain and cannot be impacted by tomato soup."

David Bailey, CEO of Bitcoin Magazine, also commented on it saying, "I'm just glad Madex bought a ticket this year. I was afraid he wasn't going to show up. Hopefully he will show up next year."
