REPORT: Gavin Newsom Ordered San Francisco's Homeless Moved to Alcatraz Ahead of Xi's Visit

San Francisco – California Governor Gavin Newsom ordered homeless San Franciscans to be sent to Alcatraz in an effort to clean up the city's streets and give the appearance of order ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the city, according to a new report.

The cleanup of the city comes after Gov. Gavin Newsom visited China last month. The cleanup included a power-washing and scrubbing of the city's streets and the removal of most of the city's homeless camps.

However, it wasn't clear what happened to the thousands of homeless people who suddenly vanished as a result of the clean up. Based on the report, they've all been housed in the former federal penitentiary just off the coast of San Francisco proper. Pastor Greg Hardy of the San Francisco Methodist Church told The Bugle that members of his congregation thought the rapture, the Evangelical belief that Christians will suddenly be raptured to Heaven to be with God someday, might have occurred. "It was a big relief to find out they moved all the homeless people to prison", Hardy said. "Spending your whole life believing homeless drug addicts were all going to hell and then finding out they all went to Heaven while you were left here in this hell on Earth, which is San Francisco, was a hard pill to swallow." he added.

The former prison, has been closed since 1967, is still maintained and open to for the purpose of public tourism. The city did not respond to questions about the state of Alcatraz tours in light of the prison being used to house the homeless.
